entregue — I surrender / I give myself

Entregue comes from the verb entregar, which means 'to deliver'. In its reflexive form, entregarse, it takes on the more passionate meaning of 'to give oneself completely' or 'to surrender' to another person.

In this heartbreaking ballad, Gloria Estefan sings "aunque me entregue" ('even if I surrender myself'), expressing that even if she finds a new love in the future, she will never be able to fully give her heart away again. It's a beautifully tragic word that captures the feeling of a love that's impossible to forget.

Have you ever been in a relationship that you knew was over, but the other person wouldn't just say it? That's exactly what Gloria Estefan is singing about here. She tells her partner, "Eres cobarde no lo quieres admitir" (You're a coward, you don't want to admit it), and decides to end things herself. She's had enough of waiting around and feeling like she's "muriendo poco a poco frente a ti" (dying little by little in front of you).

In response to this heartbreak, she makes a huge promise to herself: "No me vuelvo a enamorar" (I won't fall in love again). But here's the twist that makes this song so powerful. In the very next breath, she admits, "sé que voy a seguir enamorada de ti" (I know I will continue to be in love with you). It's this contradiction that feels so real. She's trying to be strong and protect her heart for the future, even while knowing she can't just switch off her feelings for this person. She even wishes him well, which is both kind and incredibly sad.
