chamboulerto turn upside down / to disrupt

Chambouler is a highly expressive verb that means 'to turn upside down' or 'to throw into disarray.' It conveys a sense of total disruption, much stronger than simply 'to change.'

In the hook, GIMS warns that a certain woman will "chambouler le rrain-té" (turn the 'hood upside down). 'Rrain-té' is verlan slang for terrain (meaning ground or territory), adding a layer of authenticity to this story of a captivating and disruptive presence. Learning 'chambouler' gives you a powerful word to describe major shake-ups.

SPIDER is like stepping into a glittering comic-book panel where GIMS and DYSTINCT speed through life in a cherry-red Ferrari Spider. Luxury brands fly past—Cartier, Rolex, LV, Bottega—while private jets touch down in Lausanne and showcases light up Dubai. All this excess is served with playful bravado, because every flex is really meant to stun the woman he keeps calling hayati (“my life”). Through French, Arabic and a dash of Flemish slang, the duo paint a jet-set postcard that shouts, “You’re my trophy, climb in, let’s race the summer.”

Yet beneath the roaring engine there’s a softer hum. GIMS admits that love and money are forever intertwined, and he wonders if too much affection is another kind of overload. He even warns that bringing his muse back to the old neighborhood would “chambouler le rrain-té” (shake up the block). The result is a song that mixes swagger with self-awareness: a celebration of ambition, cross-cultural flair, and the beautiful chaos that erupts when romance rides shotgun in a life lived at maximum speed.

GIMS, born Gandhi Djuna in 1986 in Kinshasa, is one of the biggest stars in French music. His family left the Democratic Republic of the Congo for Paris when he was just two years old, and he grew up in the French capital.

He first made his name as the masked frontman of the rap collective Sexion d'Assaut, one of the groups behind France's rap revival around 2010. Since going solo in 2013 he has become a chart-topping, stadium-filling artist who blends rap, pop and R&B, and he has worked with international names like Sia, Sting, Maluma and Pitbull.
