"Gangster" opens with a confession: "Desde que recuerdo, siempre quise ser gangster" (For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster). Gera MX plays the character all the way through, and the best line is the first verse's flip: "Tanto niño rico jugando a ser pobre / Y tanto niño pobre soñando ser rico" (So many rich kids playing at being poor, and so many poor kids dreaming of being rich). The hook calls him "el vago de siempre, jugador franquicia" (the same old slacker, a franchise player), the sports term for the star a team is built around.
The rest is swagger with a threat underneath. He is "arriba del Mustang" (up in the Mustang), his "letra en el cielo" (lyrics in the sky) and his "cara es noticia" (face is news). He even name-checks Peso Pluma, the Mexican corridos star: "Cargo lista negra como Peso Pluma" (I carry a blacklist like Peso Pluma). The ending is a clever bit of wordplay: "malentendidos" (misunderstandings) turns into "te van a dejar tendido" (they will leave you laid out), so a misunderstanding here can get you killed.
