neta — for real / the truth

Neta is popular Mexican slang for "the truth" or "for real". It's a super common word you'll hear in conversations and in modern Regional Mexican music, but you won't typically find it in a textbook.

In the song, the singer says, "y neta que yo me siento mejor" (and for real, I feel better). He uses neta to add emphasis and sincerity, assuring his love interest that his feelings are genuine. Learning this word is a great way to make your Spanish sound more authentic and natural.

This song is a full-on love letter! The singer is completely head over heels for someone and he's not shy about it. He tells her, "No puedo parar en pensar / En tu carita angelical" (I can't stop thinking / About your angelic little face). He lists all the things he loves about her, from her smile and her eyes to her scent. It's a very direct and passionate declaration of love.

But it's not just about looks. He promises to be her everything, saying, "Yo quiero ser el hombre / Que te dé todo y nada te falte" (I want to be the man / Who gives you everything so you lack nothing). He imagines a future together, from traveling the world to simple moments like having coffee in the morning and watching movies in bed. He even promises to be her comfort, saying "Si lloras te doy mi hombro" (If you cry I'll give you my shoulder). It's a sweet and incredibly romantic song about wanting to build a life with the person you adore.

Eslabón Armado began in 2017 as three teenagers from Patterson, California, playing sierreño on twelve-string guitar and bass while they were still at Patterson High School. Brothers Pedro and Brian Tovar are the two constants; Pedro started writing the songs at about ten, and the first album was cut in a garage. Their subject is almost always heartbreak, taken slowly and sung close to the microphone.

That garage record, Tu Veneno Mortal (2020), still went to No. 1 on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums chart, and "Con Tus Besos" and "La Trokita" were the singles that carried it. Corta Venas arrived the same year and is certified 8x platinum in the Latin field. Nostalgia (2022) hit No. 9 on the Billboard 200, the first regional Mexican album to reach the top ten there. In March 2023 they released "Ella Baila Sola" with Peso Pluma, which peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and became the first regional Mexican song in the top ten, and the album behind it, Desvelado, entered at No. 6. Amor Perdido followed in 2024, Vibras de Noche 2 in 2025.
