Periferia translates to "periphery" or "outskirts". It's a less common word in song lyrics, making it stand out.
In "Luces De Periferia," the band Enjambre uses it to evoke images of distant, perhaps urban, lights. The song questions whether these are "luces de periferia" (lights from the periphery) or "estrellas" (stars), creating a sense of ambiguity and introspection about what is real versus what is perceived or imagined.
Enjambre open on a haze of memory. The singer can't pin down when things ended or began: "¿Cuándo fue que terminó? ¿Cuándo fue que comenzó?" [When did it end? When did it start?]. The nights blur into alcohol and doubt, "Etílica y dispersa" [Drunk and scattered], until he isn't even sure the "Luces de periferia" [Lights on the outskirts] were real lights at all, or just stars, or something his own head invented: "¿O acaso eran estrellas?" [Or were they stars?]
Under the fuzziness sits a plain refusal to let go. "Tenías razón" [You were right] repeats like an apology he keeps circling back to, but the chorus turns it forward instead of dwelling on it: "Nunca es demasiado tarde" [It's never too late]. By the end the song stops trying to explain the night and settles on one plea, "Haz que valga la pena" [Make it worth it], sung over and over until it sounds less like a request and more like something he's convincing himself of.
