esquivar — to dodge / to avoid

Esquivar means "to dodge" or "to avoid," often by moving out of the way of something. It is a vivid, useful verb that goes beyond the more common evitar.

In the song, the singer says he is trying to esquivar las piedras que me encuentro, or "dodge the stones I encounter." The stones are likely metaphorical obstacles and hardships in life, making the word feel both visual and emotionally meaningful.

In “En La Vida,” Argentine artist Dread Mar I looks back at time and love that have already gone. “El tiempo que se fue” [The time that went away] “se fue sin avisar” [left without warning], and the singer says it has left him standing still, alone after a past love. The repeated line “Nada en la vida se podrá cambiar” [Nothing in life can be changed] is wonderfully blunt. It means that some events cannot be undone, so he accepts “Pasa lo que tiene que pasar” [What has to happen, happens].

Still, this is not a song about giving up. He is trying to avoid “las piedras que me encuentro” [the stones I come across], a clear image for the difficulties in his path. Then the mood turns toward hope: “La lluvia que vendrá traerá el amor” [The rain that will come will bring love]. He imagines a perfect love arriving and decides to wait calmly, “con los brazos abiertos” [with open arms]. The song moves from lost time, through acceptance, toward the quiet belief that something loving can still come.
