Sortilège translates to "spell" or "charm". It's a captivating and somewhat mystical word that evokes a sense of magic and enchantment.
In the song, the artist sings, "Y a plus le sortilège" (There's no more spell), implying that the initial magic or enchantment of the relationship has faded. It's an interesting way to describe the loss of passion and connection, making it a memorable and evocative choice.
This song is one big, desperate plea to an ex after a breakup. Danyl is completely heartbroken and can't accept that it's over. He knows the magic is gone, saying, "T'as plus de papillons dans le ventre" [You don't have butterflies in your stomach anymore], but he's still begging for another chance. The title, "Galbi," is Arabic for "my heart," and he uses it as a nickname for her while he begs her to just reply to his texts, which he can see she's read!
He swings between sadness and anger, trying to move on by burning their photos, but then admits everything reminds him of her, even a specific perfume mixed with the sound of waves. He's also consumed by jealousy, admitting, "J'ai du mal à me faire à l'idée / Qu'un autre t'ait déshabillée" [I'm having a hard time accepting the idea / That someone else has undressed you]. It's a very honest and messy look at how hard it is to let someone go, especially when you're still completely in love with them.
Danyl is a French-Algerian rapper and singer, born Danyl Boudali on October 25, 1998, in Saint-Maurice, just outside Paris. His parents are of Kabyle and Sahraoui Algerian origin, and he grew up between Créteil and the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
He started learning piano at a conservatory from the age of six, and that classical training still shapes his music today. Self-taught as a composer and beatmaker, Danyl blends raĂŻ, the music his father loved, with French and American rap, creating a sound that feels both modern and rooted in his family's heritage.
He released his EP KHEDMA 2 in December 2023, following on from KHEDMA 1 (the project "Galbi" comes from), and put out his first full album, Zmig, in January 2025. Across his songs he often explores love, heartbreak, and what it means to grow up between two cultures.
