This is a vallenato love song about distance, and it opens with a lovely bit of imagery: two stars ("llegaron dos luceros a mi balcón" [two bright stars came to my balcony]) lean in and ask the singer why he is crying. His answer is simple. He misses the woman he loves, and he does not know if he will ever see her again or kiss her lips.

What makes it sweet rather than gloomy is the twist in the middle: "Sabes que la distancia es nuestra amiga" [You know that distance is our friend], because it taught them to put up with all that longing for kisses. Then comes the cutest line in the song, "yo soy tu sábana y tú mi almohadita" [I am your bedsheet and you are my little pillow]. The -ita ending on almohadita is a diminutive, a very Colombian way of making a word tender.

The chorus is the question in the title, "Dime, ¿cómo te olvido?" [Tell me, how do I forget you?], and the answer is that he can't, since with her love "seremos eternos" [we will be eternal]. In the middle you also hear spoken shout-outs to people by name, like Paola de la Peña and Paulina Cabello, a classic vallenato habit of dedicating the song to friends and fans.
