"Cómo Vamos a Quedar" (Where Do We Stand?) is a vallenato confession. The singer gets straight to it: "Lo que te contaron fue verdad" (what they told you was true). He cheated, "He manchado mis promesas por un acto de infidelidad" (I stained my promises with an act of infidelity), and now he wants to know where that leaves them: will she forget him, or leave and come back?

His defence is that he has changed: "ya no soy el hombre aquel que te hirió" (I'm no longer that man who hurt you). He even reads omens like a worried fortune teller. A grey sky is "mala señal" (a bad sign), but if a bird flies past, "tú volverás" (you'll come back). Whether she should believe him is another matter, since his big excuse is that anyone who wanders the world "se puede equivocar" (can make a mistake). It opens, vallenato style, with a spoken shout-out: "Ay homb'e", a Caribbean Colombian way of saying "ay hombre" (oh man).

Phrase to learn: ¿cómo vamos a quedar? literally means "how are we going to stay?" but really asks "so where does this leave us?"
