Tata is an affectionate, informal Spanish term often used for an aunt, nanny, or a beloved older female figure who helped raise a child. It carries warmth and deep gratitude, more tender than a formal title would.
In the song, "Te llamaba 'Tata' porque tu eras aquella que me cuidaba" ("I called you 'Tata' because you were the one who cared for me") honors this person's role as a loving caretaker in the singer's childhood.
In his song "Tata," Spanish artist Beret shares a deeply personal and emotional tribute to someone very important who has passed away. The lyrics paint a picture of a person who was like an angel on Earth, a guiding light, and a source of strength for him. He affectionately called her "Tata," a name often used for a beloved older sister or caregiver, because she looked after him when he couldn't even look after himself.
Throughout the song, Beret expresses his grief and regret for not having a final moment to say goodbye. He remembers her as a selfless protector, someone who would have given her own life for him. He also reflects on the dreams she never got to fulfill, like seeing the northern lights or becoming a mother. Despite the pain of her absence, he finds comfort in the belief that she will live on forever in his memory and that one day, they will be reunited.
