caripelado — shameless / boldfaced

Caripelado is a fantastic piece of Puerto Rican slang that literally translates to "peeled face". It's used to describe someone who is shameless, brazen, or has a lot of nerve.

In the song, Bad Bunny calls himself a caripelado because he's acting hypocritically. He's getting jealous seeing his ex with someone new, even though he admits to having been with countless other people himself. It’s a powerful and honest way of calling himself out for being shamelessly boldfaced in the situation.

Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny serves up a brutally honest, funny look at hypocritical jealousy in "Yo No Soy Celoso". He starts off hungover, grumpy, and nursing a broken heart that feels as deep as the Grand Canyon ("en el cora' me dejaste el Gran Cañón"). Even though he is out partying and dating other women, the second someone spots his ex at the nightclub Fifty-Eight with a new guy, his cool demeanor vanishes. The main hook says it all: "Yo no soy celoso, pero ¿quién es ese cabrón?" ("I'm not jealous, but who is that jerk?"). He promises he will not make a public scene ("hacer un papelón"), but he cannot help feeling the sting.

What makes this track stand out is that he calls himself out on his own double standards. He admits he is a shameless hypocrite ("sé que soy un caripelado") for being mad after sleeping with hundreds of people himself. He even admits that wanting her all to himself is selfish ("eso es egoísmo") and getting upset without a right is plain sexism ("eso es machismo"), joking that he deserves a slap in the face ("un bofetón pa' mí mismo"). Between mentions of Puerto Rican merengue star Olga Tañón and coping through drinks and smoke, Bad Bunny gives us a messy, hilarious confession of someone fighting their own bruised ego.

Bad Bunny was bagging groceries at a supermarket in Vega Baja and studying audiovisual communication at the University of Puerto Rico's Arecibo campus when the tracks he was uploading to SoundCloud between shifts reached DJ Luian, who signed him to Hear This Music in 2016. He was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Bayamón in 1994 and grew up in the Almirante Sur barrio of Vega Baja.

The breakout was "Diles" in 2016, then "Soy Peor" that December, and by 2018 he was on Cardi B's "I Like It", a number one on the Hot 100. His albums run from X 100pre and YHLQMDLG through Un Verano Sin Ti, the year end number one on the Billboard 200 in 2022, to Debí Tirar Más Fotos, which in February 2026 became the first all Spanish language album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. He also has "Callaíta", "Dakiti" and "Tití Me Preguntó" behind him, a summer 2025 residency at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, and a WrestleMania tag team match in 2021 that he and Damian Priest won.
