cabizbajo — Downcast / With head bowed

Cabizbajo is a wonderfully descriptive Spanish adjective that literally combines cabeza (head) and bajo (low).

It's used to describe someone who is dejected, sad, or crestfallen, physically showing their emotions by hanging their head. In the song, Bad Bunny captures his post-breakup sadness perfectly, singing "Pensando en ti, siempre cabizbajo" (Thinking of you, always downcast). It's a poetic word that paints a vivid picture of a feeling.

Starting with a skit where someone cures their depression simply by putting on Bad Bunny, this track sets up a ridiculously upbeat, playful beat for a deeply relatable post-breakup spiral. The Puerto Rican star admits right away that while he knows moving on is for the best, he cannot stop himself from caring. He sings, "Y si veo a tu mamá, yo le pregunto por ti" ("And if I see your mom, I'll ask her about you"), desperate to find out if his ex has found someone new who makes them happy.

Bad Bunny keeps it painfully honest and funny as he lists how bad life has been lately. He got fired from work for moping around ("cabizbajo" means looking down with your chin against your chest), gained weight, and copes by only posting internet memes. Instead of actually deleting his ex's pictures, he just changed their status to private ("solo la puse privada"). By the time 5:00 AM rolls around after a night out drinking with his friends, his promise not to talk about her completely falls apart: "Si no prenden la voy a llamar" ("If they don't light up [a joint], I'm going to call her"). It is a messy, laugh-out-loud confession of someone who is still completely hung up six months later.

Bad Bunny was bagging groceries at a supermarket in Vega Baja and studying audiovisual communication at the University of Puerto Rico's Arecibo campus when the tracks he was uploading to SoundCloud between shifts reached DJ Luian, who signed him to Hear This Music in 2016. He was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Bayamón in 1994 and grew up in the Almirante Sur barrio of Vega Baja.

The breakout was "Diles" in 2016, then "Soy Peor" that December, and by 2018 he was on Cardi B's "I Like It", a number one on the Hot 100. His albums run from X 100pre and YHLQMDLG through Un Verano Sin Ti, the year end number one on the Billboard 200 in 2022, to Debí Tirar Más Fotos, which in February 2026 became the first all Spanish language album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. He also has "Callaíta", "Dakiti" and "Tití Me Preguntó" behind him, a summer 2025 residency at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, and a WrestleMania tag team match in 2021 that he and Damian Priest won.
