chinchorrear — to go bar-hopping (Puerto Rican style)

Chinchorrear is a fantastic Puerto Rican slang verb that's hard to translate with a single word. It means to go on a chinchorro tour, which is a road trip with friends that involves stopping at various small, rustic roadside bars and eateries for drinks and traditional food.

In the song, Bad Bunny sings "el combo va a chinchorrear" (the crew is going bar-hopping), perfectly capturing the song's theme of a carefree, day-long party with friends across the island. It's a word that truly embodies a fun slice of Puerto Rican culture.

Bad Bunny teams up with Los Pleneros de la Cresta for an energetic track celebrating island life, community, and non-stop partying. The routine is simple: "Por la mañana, café, por la tarde, ron" ("In the morning, coffee, in the afternoon, rum"). The song calls out towns and neighborhoods across Puerto Rico, from Arecibo to Ponce and Llorens to Canales, urging everyone to step out onto their balconies and join the crowd.

Instead of heading into the city, the party moves up into the hills. Bad Bunny invites friends to make the trek with "Sube tú pa' la montaña, porque hoy yo me quedo acá" ("Come up to the mountain, because today I am staying here"), stating that true community values ("los códigos de verdad") live up in the countryside. The lyrics celebrate classic Puerto Rican pastimes like chinchorreo (traveling in groups from one small bar or food stand to another) and car culture with lines about burning rubber and engine torque ("chillando goma, botando humo... sientan el torque"). Just watch your step on the ride down: "Ten cuidado... Que no te vayas por risco" ("Be careful... so you don't go off a cliff").

Bad Bunny was bagging groceries at a supermarket in Vega Baja and studying audiovisual communication at the University of Puerto Rico's Arecibo campus when the tracks he was uploading to SoundCloud between shifts reached DJ Luian, who signed him to Hear This Music in 2016. He was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Bayamón in 1994 and grew up in the Almirante Sur barrio of Vega Baja.

The breakout was "Diles" in 2016, then "Soy Peor" that December, and by 2018 he was on Cardi B's "I Like It", a number one on the Hot 100. His albums run from X 100pre and YHLQMDLG through Un Verano Sin Ti, the year end number one on the Billboard 200 in 2022, to Debí Tirar Más Fotos, which in February 2026 became the first all Spanish language album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. He also has "Callaíta", "Dakiti" and "Tití Me Preguntó" behind him, a summer 2025 residency at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, and a WrestleMania tag team match in 2021 that he and Damian Priest won.
