Babasónicos turn a love story into fruit pulp, and it works. The big reveal comes early: "El amor resultó ser / La pulpa viscosa maldita del maracuyá" (love turned out to be the cursed, slimy pulp of the passion fruit). If you have ever opened a passion fruit, you know the picture: sweet, sour, seedy and sticky all at once. That is the relationship here. The singer is stuck in "algo ensordecedor donde no quiero entrar / y no puedo salir" (something deafening I don't want to enter and can't get out of), and the refrain keeps shrugging "nadie quiere sufrir" (nobody wants to suffer).

Notice the vos in "Vos no querés salir" (you don't want to go out): that is the Argentine way of saying tú, with its own verb form querés instead of quieres. The bridge is dry and a little bitter: "Somos lo que deshicimos y eso nos costó mucho trabajo" (we are what we undid, and that took a lot of work). Then the chorus collapses into just "Cuerpo, pulpa, maracuyá" (body, pulp, passion fruit), as if the song has given up on explaining and is left with only the physical stuff.

Babasónicos, from Argentina, started making music in the late 1980s, quickly becoming a fixture in the country's alternative rock scene. They developed a sound that mixed rock with electronic elements, often featuring a playful and sometimes strange lyrical approach.

Led by singer Adrián Dárgelos, the band is known for songs like "Irresponsables," "Putita," and "Yegua." Their albums, including Jessico and Infame, are important works that helped shape their career and gain them a wide audience.
