Ricovrarti is a beautiful and somewhat archaic form of "ricoverarti", meaning "to take refuge" or "to shelter oneself". It's a reflective and spiritual word that evokes a sense of seeking solace and protection.
In this prayerful song, Andrea Bocelli sings about the soul yearning "di ricovrarti in braccio" (to take refuge in Your arms), referring to God. This word perfectly captures the deep spiritual longing and surrender expressed in the lyrics, making it both unique and emotionally resonant.
Andrea Bocelli's "Preghiera" is exactly what its Italian title suggests: a prayer. But this isn't a calm, quiet moment of reflection. It's a desperate cry for help from someone feeling completely overwhelmed. The singer addresses God directly, asking for help with a mind that's "confusa di dubbio e di dolore" (confused by doubt and pain). They feel a heavy weight pulling them down into the mud and see their life melting away "come la cera al foco, come la neve al sol" (like wax in the fire, like snow in the sun).
What the singer wants most is freedom for their soul. They feel it longs to fly into God's arms but is trapped by a "laccio che le impedisce il vol" (a snare that prevents its flight). The whole song builds to this intense, repeated plea for God to break the snare and show mercy. It's a powerful expression of feeling trapped and looking for divine intervention to be set free.
