orilla — shore / edge

Orilla translates to "shore" or "edge." It's a beautiful and evocative word that paints a vivid picture, making it more unique than common verbs or adjectives.

In the song, Alvaro Soler sings, "¿Qué te parecería si nos perdemos en la orilla?" (What would you think if we got lost on the shore?). This line uses orilla to suggest a romantic escape, a place where two people can lose themselves together, making it a very enticing and memorable word in this context.

“Diferente” invites us into a sun-kissed story where two people from unlike worlds feel an instant spark that words can hardly explain.

Alvaro Soler and Greg Taro celebrate the magic of química — that gut-level chemistry that ignores accent differences and cultural gaps. Even when they cannot fully understand each other’s sentences, the pull is unmistakable, lighting a “llama aquí dentro” that keeps them dancing closer. The chorus repeats what the heart already knows: what you give me is different, the way you move is different, and that very difference is what makes the connection irresistible. Beneath the playful melody lies a simple takeaway for any listener learning English or Spanish alike: true feeling speaks louder than language, so do not hide what you feel — chemistry never lies.

Álvaro Soler was ten when his family moved to Tokyo, and seventeen when he came back to Catalonia with piano lessons and most of a second childhood behind him. He was born in Sant Cugat del VallĂšs in 1991, formed the band Urban Lights in 2010 with his brother and a few friends, reached the final eight of the talent show ÂĄTĂș sĂ que vales! with them in 2013, and left in 2014 to work on his own.

The song that broke him was "El mismo sol" in 2015, a number one in Italy and Switzerland that was re-recorded as a bilingual version with Jennifer Lopez. "Sofia" did it again a year later, topping the charts in Italy, Poland, Belgium and Switzerland and going platinum several times over in Italy. His albums are Eterno agosto (2015), Mar de colores (2018), which carried "La cintura", Magia (2021) and El Camino (2025). He records in Spanish, English, Italian and German, wrote "Yo contigo, tĂș conmigo" with Morat for Despicable Me 3, and has coached on the German edition of The Voice Kids.
