brujería — witchcraft / sorcery

BrujerĂa literally translates to "witchcraft" or "sorcery". It's a captivating word that immediately suggests something magical, mysterious, or powerfully enchanting.

In the song, Alvaro Soler uses brujerĂa to describe the intense, almost supernatural feeling he experiences when he sees the person he's singing about: "Lo que siento es pura brujerĂa" (What I feel is pure witchcraft). This poetic use elevates a simple feeling into something extraordinary and irresistible, making it a truly memorable and enticing word.

Bonita paints the picture of a mesmerizing young woman who lights up every room with her blue skirt, hypnotic moves, and magnetic smile. Whenever the singer hears “her melody,” memories of her instantly appear, making him feel as if he’s under a charming spell. The crowd showers her with compliments — “Te llaman bonita” — and she keeps the party alive, dancing nonstop and turning up the atmosphere for everyone around.

Yet the lyrics reveal a bittersweet twist: while people only see her radiance, no one notices the silent tears she hides when the night falls and she’s alone at her window. Dancing becomes her escape, a way to forget the loneliness that lingers inside. Alvaro Soler invites listeners to look beyond surface beauty, reminding us that even the brightest stars can be fighting unseen battles.

Álvaro Soler was ten when his family moved to Tokyo, and seventeen when he came back to Catalonia with piano lessons and most of a second childhood behind him. He was born in Sant Cugat del VallĂšs in 1991, formed the band Urban Lights in 2010 with his brother and a few friends, reached the final eight of the talent show ÂĄTĂș sĂ que vales! with them in 2013, and left in 2014 to work on his own.

The song that broke him was "El mismo sol" in 2015, a number one in Italy and Switzerland that was re-recorded as a bilingual version with Jennifer Lopez. "Sofia" did it again a year later, topping the charts in Italy, Poland, Belgium and Switzerland and going platinum several times over in Italy. His albums are Eterno agosto (2015), Mar de colores (2018), which carried "La cintura", Magia (2021) and El Camino (2025). He records in Spanish, English, Italian and German, wrote "Yo contigo, tĂș conmigo" with Morat for Despicable Me 3, and has coached on the German edition of The Voice Kids.
